Monday, September 27, 2004exploring the Coast
I'm still on the Coast looking for a place to live. I might go back to Toronto for a bit while I wait for it to become available, but for now I'm enjoying gorgeous weather, hiking in the woods, walking along the shore, talking to the wacky locals, and especially the wild blackberries!
I really had no idea how stressed out & wound up I was (aka "normal") until I came here, breathed the mountain/salt air for awhile, and got some proper sleep. I'm feeling more clear headed & healthy than ever.
More soon....

I'm on the Sunshine Coast (it's raining) and trying to get myself set up. The only people I really knew here are both away, so I'm lonely and still figuring things out. I'm not worried though, these things take time.
That said, the forests are amazingly beautiful here and the water tastes like Heaven.
I will post pictures soon.

I made it to the West Coast and am in Vancouver for at least the weekend, then I'm off to get started on my new life. It's emotional and exciting to finally be here.
More soon.

The most disturbing thing about these obesity statistics is how much the percentages have gone up since the early 1990s....
19912001 Prevalence of Obesity Among U.S. Adults by State http://www.cdc.gov/nccdphp/dnpa/obesity/trend/prev_reg.htm The prevalence of obesity among U.S. adults increased to 20.9 percent in 2001, a 5.6 percent increase in 1 year and a 74 percent increase since 1991.

To me this seems like a warning call, as we're part of nature too....
Extinct plants, animals threaten loss of thousands more http://www.cbc.ca/story/science/national/2004/09/10/extinct040910.html Researchers in Singapore, the United States and Canada used an international list of 12,200 plants and animals that are considered threatened or endangered as their starting point.
"What we wanted to learn was, if the host goes extinct, how many other species will go with it?" said biology Prof. Heather Proctor of the University of Alberta in Edmonton.

Last night I saw a demonstration of a very cool bicycle accessory that creates light patterns inside your spokes as they spin. You can choose from a variety of colours & patterns and even your own text!
I will eventually get myself one of these, both for the safety factor and general styleyness :)
Hokeyspokes http://www.hokeyspokes.ca/ An individual Hokey Spokes blade is a single waterproof blade with 16 LED lights that create images, patterns and text within bicycle spokes. Hokey Spokes are ideal for the evening or nighttime rider, as they greatly increase one's visibility when riding.

Separation of church and state is an IMPORTANT fundamental American value. It is now being eroded in a MAJOR way.
Will Americans stop shopping and watching Reality TV long enough to notice? Will those that do notice care enough to actually try and put a stop to it?
Too bad these false "Christians" don't understand what Jesus was actually about.
By Their Fruits Ye Shall Know Them http://www.alternet.org/election04/19648 The radical collapse of all distinction between church and state and the promotion of an angry "Christianity" as the USA's official state religion have grown increasingly apparent as the Bush regime has turned more grandiose and reckless after 9/11. That revolutionary program has gradually come into view despite the press's failure to expose it, and despite the random efforts of the White House to conceal it ("Well, I first of all, I would never justify I would never use God to promote policy decisions," Bush said, without conviction, to Brit Hume in an interview on September 22, 2003). A cursory survey of Bush/Cheney's foreign and domestic innovations will make clear that from the start, this regime has been hard at work transforming the United States into a theocratic system, and, globally, at the gradual creation of a nominally Christian New World Order.

I personally believe that alien life probably exists out there and that it's arrogant to assume that human beings are the only thing living in an infinite Universe...
Astronomers: More Earths Likely http://www.wired.com/news/space/0,2697,64795,00.html?tw=wn_tophead_2 Finding an Earth-like exoplanet in a "sweet spot" that is not too close or too far from its sun is the holy grail of the search for extraterrestrial life.
"The news we are announcing today is going to bring us closer to the question: Are we alone in the universe?" said NASA Science Directorate spokeswoman Anne Kinney.
